DIET MASTERS

DIETMASTERS

MY YEARS AS A FOOD ADDICT

I was a heavy eater by the time I was 5 years old, only it was called a "healthy appetite" in those days, and they called me cute and chubby. By the time I was 18 I was a compulsive overeater. At 5'6", my weight ranged between 125 to 149, but only because I spent part of almost every month on some diet or another. I must have gained and lost more than 500 pounds on various crash diets before I turned 40.I could eat 3 half gallons of ice cream a week and 3 candy bars at the movies. At my favorite Oriental buffet I would start with 6 egg rolls and fill my plate (and myself) so much that the owners lost money. No matter what diet I tried, I dreamed of my next “fix”… boxes of cookies, bags of potato chips or maybe a whole pizza.I’ve always been an upbeat person with a good marriage, two children, and close friends, but on my 40th birthday I was feeling depressed. I took a walk on the beach and realized that my compulsive eating had to stop. I decided that I wanted peace more than pizza and vowed to put my extensive dieting knowledge to work. I re-read all of my material on the subject and designed a way of eating that would satisfy me and finally curb my appetite. My determination paid off in spades and changed my life. The numbers on the scale remained below 130 and before I knew it, I was helping curious friends and neighbors. That was the beginning of a long and exciting career founding and directing Diet Masters, teaching dieting classes and low calorie cooking and even self publishing 6 dieting books. Best of all, my weight has been stable between 124 and 129 for 39 years while I eat food that I enjoy.

HOW TO HANDLE FOOD IN VARIOUS SITUATIONS

WHEN IT COMES TO DECIDING WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO EAT AT THE FOLLOWING TWO PLACES HAVE A PLAN AND FOLLOW IT THROUGH.

               SNACKING AT THE MOVIES

1.THE MOVIES: Their concession stands are full of fattening treats (at a price) that can coax you into devouring 500 to 1,000 calories. To name just a few: large candy bars, buttered popcorn in various sizes;  from gigantic which is as huge as a bucket; to the senior size which is usually 375 calories. It  would  be ideal to order it without butter. Their drinks are sold in sizes from fairly large to 32ounces...If you buy the latter, they give you a free refill..NOT CALORIE FREE.  If you opt for the largest size and have a refill you will miss part of the film running to the rest room.

THE DIET MASTER WAY TO HANDLE REFRESHMENTS:  Bring a package of Lifesavers in your purse or pocket or opt for a small plastic bag with 2 - 50 calorie cookies or something that does not make a crunching noise when you eat.  Use your imagination.  Order their small size diet soda. Another idea is to eat before you go to a movie and don't order anything.

Before I began Diet Masters I ALWAYS  used to eat 3 candy bars at a movie...Two of them would be finished before the coming attractions were over!

                                             CARD PARTIES WITH THE 'GIRLS'

2. CARD PARTIES: It seems that each hostess tries to outdo herself by having the most exciting refreshments.  She might have dishes of nuts which she keeps refilling on all of the tables.  Sometimes there will be candy that her son sent for her birthday. It is her  pleasure to share this as she recently lost weight and does not want it around the house to tempt her. There can be many more fattening foods but YOU are not going to overindulge..YOU have a 'stay slim plan'.

THE DIET MASTERS' PLAN:  If the hostess or any other people asks you why you are not having the wonderful cake or whatever calorie-laden foods that are served, do not mention the words weight or diet.  Just put a little smile and your face and say that you had a very large dinner or lunch, etc. and that all of the food looks delicious..

THE REST OF THE PLAN: You have promised yourself that you would not eat all of those empty hundreds of calories that are usually offered but will have some of that great fruit that you have at home, or a large 120 calorie smoothie...anything that suits your fancy that is under 150 calories.
