Shop smart for slenderizing and healthy food: poultry..fish..lean cuts of meat..low fat or fat free dairy products..lots of vegetables (fresh or frozen)..brown rice..beans..whole grain pasta and bread..and last but not least, good fresh fruit.
You do not have to be a purist, but it is good to read labels from time to time as some items are very high in sodium and additives.
Another hint is to carefully look through the items in your shopping cart before checking out to see if there is something that will sabotage your good intentions to stay on your diet.
