DIET MASTERS

DIETMASTERS

MY YEARS AS A FOOD ADDICT

I was a heavy eater by the time I was 5 years old, only it was called a "healthy appetite" in those days, and they called me cute and chubby. By the time I was 18 I was a compulsive overeater. At 5'6", my weight ranged between 125 to 149, but only because I spent part of almost every month on some diet or another. I must have gained and lost more than 500 pounds on various crash diets before I turned 40.I could eat 3 half gallons of ice cream a week and 3 candy bars at the movies. At my favorite Oriental buffet I would start with 6 egg rolls and fill my plate (and myself) so much that the owners lost money. No matter what diet I tried, I dreamed of my next “fix”… boxes of cookies, bags of potato chips or maybe a whole pizza.I’ve always been an upbeat person with a good marriage, two children, and close friends, but on my 40th birthday I was feeling depressed. I took a walk on the beach and realized that my compulsive eating had to stop. I decided that I wanted peace more than pizza and vowed to put my extensive dieting knowledge to work. I re-read all of my material on the subject and designed a way of eating that would satisfy me and finally curb my appetite. My determination paid off in spades and changed my life. The numbers on the scale remained below 130 and before I knew it, I was helping curious friends and neighbors. That was the beginning of a long and exciting career founding and directing Diet Masters, teaching dieting classes and low calorie cooking and even self publishing 6 dieting books. Best of all, my weight has been stable between 124 and 129 for 39 years while I eat food that I enjoy.

SEVERAL WAYS TO SABOTAGE YOUR DIET

MANY OF MY READERS SABOTAGE THEIR DIETS AND DO NOT REALIZE THE MISTAKES THAT THEY MAKE.  THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL MAY BE AN 'EYE OPENER'.

                                           WAYS TO SABOTAGE YOUR DIET

1.  Saying to yourself: "I will lose weight faster if I skip breakfast."

My Advice:  Most people who skip breakfast usually overeat all day long.  My suggestion would be that they combine their breakfast calories with their lunch.
On the other hand, if they tend to eat normal amounts early in the day but start gobbling food after dinner, they could make a fourth meal that contains the same 250 calories that the average breakfast would  have been and eat it slowly

2.  Keeping boxes and bags of snack food around the house that you nibble on all day long.

My Advice:  Buying individual serving sizes are your best bet as a rule, but in some cases if there are six bags of snack food in a box they eat them all in the course on a day. Calorie Cost:600.

KEEP FOOD OUT OF THE HOUSE THAT YOU CANNOT CONTROL.

3.  If you have half gallons of ice cream in the freezer and visit it several times a day with a spoon in hand this can hinder all of your good deeds.Total calories for half of a container:800.

My Advice:  Make a smoothie in your blender with 1 cup of skim milk and 3/4 of a cup of frozen fruit with a package of sweetener.  You can sip the whole thing at once or eat it with a spoon or you can freeze it into 3 one cup servings. Total calories: about 150.

4.  Sometimes you get discouraged and want to give up if it takes you 3 months to lose 12 pounds.

My Advice:  You will have lost 48 pounds in one year if you continue at that pace.  Try lifting 10 packages of 5 pounds of sugar.  That represents the weight youwill have lost from your body.
