A HALF CUP OF BOILED POTATOES ARE ONLY 59 CALORIES
As I look at a copy of the nutrition facts for 1/2 cup of potato salad without egg added, it reads:
Nutrition Facts
Serving size...........1/2 cup
Calories.................320
Calories from fat...220
They mention the amount of the cholesterol, etc. but this post is about calories and percentage of fat. Over sixty eight percent of the calories are from fat.
In a previous post, I mentioned that the calories from the deli department coleslaw is 160 calorie per half cup and that calories from fat are 110. I always suggest that we lightly rinse part of the container of coleslaw that we have put in a strainer. Instead of 160 calories, it becomes about 25 calories per serving and it tastes excellent. You can always add some mild vinegar to the rinsed slaw, but I find it has plenty of flavor in my estimation.
Note* I cannot visualize rinsing potato salad as the flavoring and the consistency would not be right but I am bringing you a great, easy recipe for low calorie potato salad the Diet Master way. Instead of 320 calories per half cup serving it is a mere 75 calories.
Low Calorie Tasty Potato Salad
2 cups cooked peeled diced potatoes chilled
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup chopped celery
3 to 4 tablespoons low fat mayonnaise (about 15 calories per tablespoon)
salt and pepper to taste
Optional, pitted sliced ripe olives for color and taste
Serves 4..........about 75 calories per serving
