DIET MASTERS

DIETMASTERS

MY YEARS AS A FOOD ADDICT

I was a heavy eater by the time I was 5 years old, only it was called a "healthy appetite" in those days, and they called me cute and chubby. By the time I was 18 I was a compulsive overeater. At 5'6", my weight ranged between 125 to 149, but only because I spent part of almost every month on some diet or another. I must have gained and lost more than 500 pounds on various crash diets before I turned 40.I could eat 3 half gallons of ice cream a week and 3 candy bars at the movies. At my favorite Oriental buffet I would start with 6 egg rolls and fill my plate (and myself) so much that the owners lost money. No matter what diet I tried, I dreamed of my next “fix”… boxes of cookies, bags of potato chips or maybe a whole pizza.I’ve always been an upbeat person with a good marriage, two children, and close friends, but on my 40th birthday I was feeling depressed. I took a walk on the beach and realized that my compulsive eating had to stop. I decided that I wanted peace more than pizza and vowed to put my extensive dieting knowledge to work. I re-read all of my material on the subject and designed a way of eating that would satisfy me and finally curb my appetite. My determination paid off in spades and changed my life. The numbers on the scale remained below 130 and before I knew it, I was helping curious friends and neighbors. That was the beginning of a long and exciting career founding and directing Diet Masters, teaching dieting classes and low calorie cooking and even self publishing 6 dieting books. Best of all, my weight has been stable between 124 and 129 for 39 years while I eat food that I enjoy.

SOME SWEET IDEAS FROM THE DIET LADY

HAVE YOU A REPUTATION FOR BEING A GOOD BAKER ?

When friends are having parties we often want to bring something and when we ask what we can bring, they mention that they love our home made pastries. Take my advice and do not bake any cookies or brownies...make a pie or a cake. Why?

I remember eating half a tray of brownies as I was cutting them to put on a platter more than once before my Diet Masters days . If you make a cake or a pie it would be embarrassing to walk into the party with a slice missing.

SOME MORE TRUE CONFESSIONS

Our next door neighbor brought over some delightful cookies when the children were young and they were called Snickerdoodles, if I remember correctly. I asked for the recipe and could not wait to make a batch. This was in the days of 'before Pam' and most of them broke as I was taking them off the tray and I ate 21 broken cookies as I stood there. They were not small cookies (for shame).

In earlier posts I mentioned how I ate about 3 half gallons of ice cream a week; and twice in my lifetime I ate a half gallon at one sitting.

I still like a little something sweet from time to time but never enjoy eating vast amounts of any type of food now.

I was standing in line at CVS buying detergents today and noticed a display of bags of chocolate chip cookies. I was reading the stats when the young lady in front of me must have thought I was interested in the price and told me that they were on sale for $2. I told her that I was just checking the calories and they were 140 calories for 4 and 35 calories each. I must admit that I "don't get a kick from champagne" as the song goes, but I do enjoy counting calories.

WOW: Every day when we wake up our bodies are like a clean slate. We have a fresh chance to eat the right foods in the right amounts.
WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN THAT YOU EAT, AND MAKE A FIRM RESOLVE TO STICK TO YOUR DIET.
